North Avenue between Church Street and Quanapowitt Parkway is under construction. The new road configuration will consist of 11-12 foot general purpose travel lanes in two directions, a wider sidewalk/shared use path for greater pedestrian comfort, and a northbound, protected bike lane that will be between 5 and 6 feet wide. This re-design is a great example of Wakefield implementing the Complete Streets Policy that was adopted on September 11, 2017. More on the North Street re-construction project.
Wakefield-Lynnfield Rail Trail. The rail trail is a 4.4 mile shared use path along a former rail corridor, beginning at the Main Street/Bennett Street intersection in Wakefield and extending north through Lynnfield to the Peabody line. To date, Wakefield has completed re-surfacing of the town's right of way and installation of ADA compliant intersection crossings. Link to the Rail Trail Project.
